“All of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me, Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called ‘You’.” – Tom Peters in Fast Company Studies have shown that it takes someone only 7 seconds to form an impression of a stranger from their face. FAQ

Where do the sessions take place?

Photo sessions take place at the David Shawley Photography studio in North Aurora, IL, or we can come to you.

Do you work with groups?
Absolutely!  We are happy to do headshots of your entire staff.  These types of sessions are typically done on site, so just let us know when you contact us.
What should I wear?
When you book a session with us, we will send you a detailed informational sheet with key things to keep in mind, dos and don’ts, etc.  But, in short, business people should dress as they would for a client meeting and actors should keep things simple with solid colored shirts, layers and interesting necklines.
What about hair and make-up?
For women, make-up is highly recommended and you should see your hair stylist 1 – 2 weeks prior to the session.  Men need not worry about make-up, but you should also get a haircut 1 – 2 weeks ahead of the session.  More details are included in the informational sheet you will receive once you book your session.
How quickly will I get my pictures?
I shoot tethered at all of my photo sessions, which means that the camera is connected directly to a computer and the images come up immediately.  We will pause several times during the session to select the “keepers” together.  Those that we pick will be posted in a private gallery for you to view within 24 hours of the session.  Once you let me know which images you select (this will vary depending on which package you have selected), they will be professionally retouched and made available to you electronically within 5 business days.
How much retouching do you do?
Retouching addresses issues like “temporary” blemishes (e.g., pimples, scraps, shaving nicks and cuts – basically things that aren’t normally “part” of you), skin smoothing, brightening teeth and eyes and fly away hair. My retouching is never overdone. You will not look “plastic” or fake. My aim is to make you look as natural as possible. The goal is to make the picture appear as though it has not been retouched. That said, please don’t come to the session with the attitude of “We can fix that in Photoshop.” While Photoshop is a wonderful tool, some things cannot be fixed easily or, in some cases, at all. And you won’t want to pay extra for extensive Photoshop work on things that could have been addressed prior to the session.
